Lynton & Barnstaple Railway

Narrow gauge train rides in Exmoor National Park

Woody Bay Station is an original Lynton & Barnstaple Railway station, opened in 1898 and closed along with the rest of the railway in September 1935.

We are open nearly all-year round for a train ride of two miles through glorious Exmoor countryside in Victorian carriages built exclusively for the railway over 100 years ago.  Now lovingly restored at great expense to their former glory so that our visitors can experience a taste of what it was like to travel by steam train in the Victorian age

With magnificent views of the rolling Devon countryside – have a picnic, play with the children, read a book or just sit and watch the trains go by.  Time to spare?  You can stay on site or on our trains for as long as you like all day at no extra charge.

What you see today is just the beginning of an exciting project to rebuild one of the worlds most famous and picturesque narrow-gauge railways, the legendary Lynton & Barnstaple Railway.

The Lynton & Barnstaple Railway is a Registered Charity owned by its members and is a not for profit social enterprise.
