Westward Ho! and Northam Burrows

Westward Ho! is a coastal village whose name derives from the Victorian novel by Charles Kingsley and is unique as the only place in Britain with an exclamation mark in its name! Known for its Blue Flag sandy beach, backed by a protective pebble ridge, Westward Ho! offers surfing with a growing reputation for kite surfing as well. There is a lifeguard presence across the summer season

Northam Burrows Country Park as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), is home to a diverse range of natural habitats, including salt marsh, open grassland, rocky shore and sand dunes; it is a haven for all kinds of wildlife. The Burrows back onto the famous pebble ridge which frames the edge of Westward Ho! beach, giving wide scenic views across Bideford Bay. If you like a round of golf, the Burrows is also home to the oldest golf course in the UK, with the added charm of sea views and the odd horse or sheep grazing the common land!
